CPAG (Child Poverty Action Group)
Supporting families during the Covid-19 pandemic
The UK government has announced emergency measures on statutory sickness pay, employment and support allowance and universal credit. CPAG also welcome the changes to arrangements for work-search requirements and jobcentre appointments. To read the full CPAG briefing on the urgent action needed at UK level, click here.
The Scottish Government also announced a significant package of support for communities, including increasing the Scottish Welfare Fund by £45million. This more than doubles the current £3.5 million fund. Importantly, it was also announced that local authorities will also be given ‘more flexibility’ in how the Fund is used. This includes scrapping the rule allowing only three applications per year. CPAG will be monitoring any subsequent changes to ensure there is proper access and adequate support for the increasing number of people who will need to use the Fund.
